Various researches have been being conducted by the B. Sc. (Hons.) final year students and the MS students under the supervision of the faculty members.

Major research fields include: (1) food and pharmaceutical microbiology, (2) stress responses in bacteria and yeasts, (3) environmental microbiology, (4) microbial drug resistance, (5) clinical microbiology, etc.

Due to the Departmental research contribution, Stamford University Bangladesh secured 4th position among the private universities of Bangladesh in terms of publication in 2016. During the last 5 financial years, the Department produced nearly 120 papers (28 in 2015-2016, 26 in 2014-2015, 31 in 2013-2014, 25 in 2012-2013, 8 in 2011-2012) in different peer reviewed international journals including “PLoS ONE”, “Journal of Infection and Chemotherapy”, “Clean-Soil, Air, Water”, “Turkish Journal of Biology”, “SpringerPlus”, “BMC Research Notes” etc. The Department also has its own journal named “Stamford Journal of Microbiology” (ISSN: 2074-5346, eISSN: 2408-8846) which has been published yearly basis since 2011.

The Department arranges workshop and seminar for existing teachers as well as students and for organizational development at a regular interval. Faculties are also encouraged to participate in conferences, seminar and workshops of different public or private universities or other research organizations to upgrade them with new thinking phenomena and share their perspectives regarding particular projects.
